The statement concluded: "With the Holy Father, we pray that, with love and realism, everything will be done to accompany Alfie and his parents in their deep suffering". "Me and Kate are so so so grateful for all your time you have put into it and support we cannot thank you enough".
Alfie Evans' case has drawn global attention.
The parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, attended the Pope's weekly general audience at the Vatican on Wednesday.

"Alfie can not be abandoned; Alfie, and his parents likewise, must be fully loved", the archbishop said in a written statement released April 15. "Our duty is to do everything to protect life".
Church teaching says the no-one should be deprived of the "ordinary means" to preserve life such as food, water and medical care, although the catechism points out that "Discontinuing medical procedures that are burdensome, dangerous, extraordinary, or disproportionate to the expected outcome can be legitimate".
