China's Tiangong-1 space station reentered this evening Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), apparently harmlessly, over the Pacific Ocean. The space station docked with the Shenzhou-8, Shenzhou-9 and Shenzhou-10 spacecraft and made important contributions to China's space cause.

Tiangong-1, which roughly translates to 'Heavenly Palace', was launched in 2011 as one of China's first experimental space stations.

A student asks questions to female astronaut Wang Yaping, who is aboard Tiangong-1 space lab module, at the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, in Beijing, capital of China, June 20, 2013.

Those tracking China's free-falling space station as it plunged into Earth's atmosphere and burned up over the South Pacific Ocean are labeling the results as mostly successful.

Tiangong-1 was launched in 2011 to carry out docking and orbit experiments.

Launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on September 29, 2011, Tiangong-1 tested docking technology to prepare the way for the coming space station.

Last night, space agencies from around the world - led by the European Space Agency - tracked Tiangong-1's descent.

Tiangong-1 cram crashing down at approximately 8:16 PM ET on April 1st, putting to rest the entire Chinese space station saga.

Like Tiangong 1, there's no reason to spent a lot of time worrying about these incoming spacecraft.

And the massive 420-tonne International Space Station is also set to meet a watery fate there in 2024. Researchers assert that if we continue to pollute the skies at the current rate, the floating debris will make space travel unsafe, which means humans may never be able to leave Earth again!

Such discoveries are likely to continue in the decades to come as the Earth's orbit only becomes more and more crowded with junk, much of it belonging to derelict satellites or rocket fragments that may have exploded or collided with other debris.

According to Chinese media source Global Times, "Tiangong-1 received so much attention, partly because some Western countries are trying to hype and sling mud at China's fast-growing aerospace industry". Due to the location of its inland rocket launch center, Chinese rocket parts are often reported to have crashed throughout the country, whether in fiery explosions or in someone's living room.

China is now focused on building a larger, 60 MT space station composed of three modules. When the orbits of such objects dip below that of the International Space Station (ISS), which flies at an average altitude of 250 miles (400 kilometers), their days are numbered.
