Autopsy shows US police shot unarmed black man in back
- A police vehicle struck a 61-year-old woman Saturday night in Sacramento as it drove away from protestors demonstrating against the police killing of Stephon Clark. Her condition was not immediately known. According to BuzzFeed News, Sacramento Police Department previously reported that Clark charged at officers, provoking them to shoot. He said the deputy's vehicle had scratches, dents and a shattered rear window following the collision.
The California Highway Patrol is now investigating the incident, and the Sheriff has launched an internal review, Hampton said.
Before the incident, more than 50 people were in attendance for the vigil.
An autopsy released on Friday showed Stephon Clark was shot in the back, a counter to the department's statement that he was approaching officers when he was killed. No weapon was recovered.
Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn told CNN he doesn't know why the cameras were muted. Cars zooming by honked in support. Believing it was a gun, law enforcement shot.
After an earlier rally held in downtown Sacramento on Saturday, demonstrators began to march on neighborhood streets around the sheriff's center and were heading east on Florin Road, blocking traffic and chanting, when the sheriff's vehicle struck the female demonstrator. As one of the deputies attempted to drive away, the auto struck a woman walking in the road. The protester was hit after officers issued multiple warnings to back away from their vehicle.
Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn announced this week that California Attorney General Xavier Becerra will hold an independent investigation of the shooting. The county coroner's official autopsy results are not expected for several weeks.
The two officers, who have not been identified, that night responded to a 911 call by a neighbor, who described a man in a hoodie breaking into auto windows in the 7500 block of 29th street. More than 20 shots were fired.

Clark also received a gunshot wound to his side and another to his left thigh, Omalu said. When police confronted him. Deputies told officers that the man had picked up a "toolbar" and broken the window of a home.
"You don't see Wanda jumping on top of cars", said friend Ashley Crabtree.
Police released video of Clark's shooting 72 hours after it happened.
"It's a phone, not a gun", the man shouted back. His partner then joined in the shooting.
Clark was pronounced dead at the scene. Warning: The below video shows the impact and may be hard to watch. They then handcuffed him before appearing to attempt resuscitation.
