PUBG Is Getting a New Map Selection Feature in the Near Future
In a new blog post over on Steam, the PUBG team explains all of the considerations that need to be made when implementing such a feature.
PUBG Corporation says that the look of map select could change before it's ultimately implemented, and unfortunately doesn't give a release date for the feature.
Today, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developers announced they're bringing map selection to the game. And we knew that map selection posed a couple of problems we needed to seriously consider.
For us, this was the most troubling issue, and it required a lot of discussion and serious research. We wanted to make sure that we could create a solution that worked for every region's players, even the ones with a naturally low server population.

To solve this, we couldn't just rely on one source of feedback (like Reddit). The first problem was whether or not adding map selection would cause an increase in matchmaking times, and the second was being able to make map selection work for players of all regions and preferences. To pick up the game and join the battle royale any time, you can purchase the game through Amazon for either PC or Xbox One. A major concern for PUBG Corporation was making sure that a map selector wouldn't drastically segment the player base further - something that separate queues for different modes such as solo, duos, and squads already do.
The PUBG team are working to add a map selection function to the game's test servers soon.
The console's "early access" version of the 100-person, massive-arena shooter is now free to download and play so long as you are an Xbox Live Gold subscriber.
