Indian law prohibits the naming of rape victims even after they have died because of the stigma attached to the crime

Eight men accused of involvement in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old Muslim girl in the Jammu and Kashmir region appeared for the first hearing at the Jammu High Court on Monday.
The murderer was found sleeping alongside the dead girl's body near the wedding, and local television reporters showed the girl's family in tears as she was carried away under a white sheet.
Police said a neighbour who was putting up tents for the wedding had been detained on suspicion of luring the girl to the secluded building.
Abdul Rasheed Turabi, a member the Kashmir Legislative Assembly, who travelled to London, said: "We are here in solidarity with our suffering brothers who are being killed in hundreds and thousands by the Indian forces". But outrage has mounted as details of the rape emerged.
As the BBC reports, police say the girl had been sedated at a Hindu temple and was repeatedly raped and then bludgeoned and strangled to death.

Almost 40 percent of India's rape victims are children and the 40,000 reported rapes in 2016 marked a 60 percent increase over the level in 2012 - the year that a sickening rape and murder of a 23-year-old student in the capital New Delhi sparked nationwide demonstrations.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan's Karachi, at least one man was killed and several injured yesterday when a riot broke out in protest at the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.
