Anthony Joshua vowed to "spark out" the last remaining world champion Deontay Wilder after defeating Joseph Parker on points in their unification clash.
Joshua was forced to go the distance for the first time - but was unanimously declared the victor with a wide margin on the judges' scorecards: 118-110 twice and 119-109.
Victory over Wilder in a fight mooted for London's Wembley Stadium in the northern summer would make Joshua the first undisputed world champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000.
Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KO) and Joseph Parker (24-0, 18 KO's) midnight will determine the owner of the titles WBA Super, IBF, IBO, WBO.
With the win, Joshua went 12 rounds in his professional career for the first time.
The unbeaten Wilder took to Twitter after Saturday's contest in front of a 78,000 capacity crowd at the Principality Stadium to insist he was "the baddest man in the world, the baddest man on the planet, and that's fact".
Froch said that, in a way, it was a "perfect performance" from Joshua, who boxed well behind a potent jab throughout, but it wasn't a victory that would have struck fear into heavyweight rival and WBC champion Wilder.
It was a calculated and extended win for Joshua, who challenged Parker's durability over a 36 minute match, eventually earning the win in the 11th round after a unanimous decision.
"I thought after six rounds it was our fight to win", he said.
