Rumor: Black Ops 4 Multiplayer Resembled Overwatch, "Fell Flat With Playtesters"

According to Polygon, Activision will be shaking things up a little with this year's entry in the Call of Duty series, with the site reporting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won't feature a single-player campaign, and will instead focus on online multiplayer and Zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 sounds more weird by the day, thanks to the many leaks that have surfaced over the past few days. After seeing the huge uprising in popularity of "battle royale" video games, rumours are indicating a similar offering in Black Ops 4.

"The game was going to take the "hero" or "specialist" system from Black Ops 3 and take it to the next level". It's a tagline that helps to back up some of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 rumors that have started flying around. Actual Killstreaks are being entered into the game and the hero systems are being scaled back a little bit.

Now, more details about the game's multiplayer mode are coming to light.

Now, usually I wouldn't put a lot of stock in information from a Twitter user without much of a following, but the reliable CoD insiders at Charlie Intel are vouching for the information. The "normal kill streaks" didn't exist in the version of the game sources had played, which was described as "in the worst state you have ever seen a Call of Duty multiplayer mode". Instead, very strong perks would have been inserted, driving the way they moved has changed, in the sense that it would resemble the advanced system of moving out of Black Ops 3. Perks were basically removed completely, and had instead been morphed into a odd kind of Kill Streak.

"This fell flat with playtesters". Word is, this new approach was not well-received by testers, and Treyarch is now scrambling to revert numerous changes. Besides the standard multiplayer mode, players can also look forward to the new Battle Royale mode. Now my information does not stretch to what the mode will become, only to what it very recently was. Some of the other information - like Black Ops 4 MP development being in a chaotic state - we are not able to verify as of this writing, so take that information with a grain of salt. Activision will be revealing more about Black Ops IIII in a few weeks time, and we should have a very solid idea of what to expect by E3 at the very latest, so stay tuned for all of the latest! Call of Duty is a yearly franchise that many have criticized for remaining far too unchanged from iteration to iteration.
