Russia has also demanded an explanation for Britain searching a Russian passenger plane in London, and issuing a travel warning to its citizens, cautioning they could face official harassment in Britain. The US was the most receptive to the call, kicking 60 Russians out of the country, which dwarfed the UK's expulsion of 23 people.

Of the 60 Russian officials the USA has expelled, 48 are from the Russian embassy in Washington and 12 are posted at the United Nations. Britain claims it was the Soviet-manufactured nerve agent Novichok and has said Russian Federation is likely responsible, which Moscow adamantly denies.

In response, Moscow last Friday expelled diplomats from 23 countries, including Australia.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull confirmed over the weekend that two Australian embassy staff were part of the 59 diplomats expelled from Russian Federation, calling Moscow's decision "disappointing, although not unexpected".

The mission said it had no other explanation other than the incident being connected with what it called the "hostile policy" the United Kingdom was conducting with regard to Russia.London's Metropolitan Police, that is coordinating the investigation into the Skripal case, denied having taken part in the aircraft's search.

British officials, meanwhile, said Saturday the government is considering Russia's request for access to the daughter of the former Russian double agent. On Friday, Moscow summoned British ambassador Laurie Bristow, giving London a month to cut the number of diplomatic staff in Russian Federation to the same number Russian Federation has in Britain. However Russia has responded and has told Britain that they will send home a total of 50 British diplomats.

Russian Federation also considers it interesting to know, if London has any sample of the chemical agent, which British representatives refer to as "Novichok" (Rookie).

Costa Rica presidential polls, NZ-England Test, and other news in pictures
Mr Alvarado won 60% of the vote to his conservative opponent's 39%, the incomplete count showed. Fabricio, as supporters refer to Alvarado Munoz, called the ruling an affront to sovereignty.

Later the Russian embassy to the USA launched a Twitter poll asking users to vote on which American consulate should be closed in Russia.

President Trump is to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un for a summit sometime next month.

Last week, Alexander Yakovenko said that the British authorities used the name "Novichok" to "artificially associate the incident with Russian Federation". Russian Federation has threatened to conduct similar searches of British Airways flights.

Bristow was summoned by Moscow along with the heads of missions from 23 other countries - majority European Union member states who were told that some of their diplomats had to leave.

Australian travellers to Russian Federation have been warned to brace for possible anti-western sentiment as the fallout continues from the poisoning of a former spy in the United Kingdom.

However the travel advisory said the government was not aware of "any increased difficulties for Australians travelling in Russian Federation at this time".

Business Insider also confirmed the reports with the State Department, noting "that the White House's diplomatic expulsion will not require Russian Federation to reduce its staffing levels in the U.S., and vice versa".
