Bulgaria Russia to Expel 60 U.S. Diplomats Tensions Are Worst in Decades
Russian officials insist they have a legal right to see the 33-year-old Skripal, who lived in Moscow and was visiting her father, Sergei Skripal, in Salisbury when they were attacked March 4 with a nerve agent.
Moscow has rejected United Kingdom accusations that it is behind the nerve agent attack on an ex-spy and his daughter in the UK.
A day earlier, Moscow ordered the expulsion of 60 United States diplomats and the closing of the U.S. consulate in Saint Petersburg, Russia's second city, in retaliation for the biggest ejection of diplomats since the Cold War.
More than 20 nations, including major European Union economies and most North Atlantic Treaty Organisation states, have backed Britain by together expelling more than 100 Russian diplomats. It gave London a month to reduce its diplomatic personnel in Russian Federation.
Friday night, the Russian Embassy in London said that an Aeroflot flight from London to Moscow was stopped for a search by British authorities. The Foreign Office had said it regretted the most recent developments but insisted Russian Federation was the culprit. The plane left London's Heathrow Airport for Moscow about three hours behind schedule.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said the USA special services have engaged in "frantic efforts" to make co-operation offers to the expelled Russian diplomats.
"However, this doesn't change the facts of the matter: The attempted assassination of two people on British soil, for which there is no alternative conclusion other than that the Russian state was culpable", she said.
"Russia is in flagrant breach of global law and the Chemical Weapons Convention and actions by countries around the world have demonstrated the depth of worldwide concern".
Britain's Foreign Office also said on Saturday it was considering allowing visits under consular access terms to Yulia Skripal, who is recovering in hospital against all expectations and is no longer in critical condition. Russian Federation has issued a series of conflicting denials around Novichok agents, with some officials insisting no such program ever existed despite extensive evidence that it did.
Blok called upon Russian Federation to cooperate with the ongoing investigation into the attack by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Russian Federation expelled four French diplomats on Friday in retaliation against the West in a spy row, as part of the biggest wave of tit-for-tat expulsions in recent memory. The country is heavily dependent on Russian gas supplies and tourists.
This includes the USnited States under President Donald Trump, who Putin had hoped would improve ties.
Russian Federation reciprocated on Thursday declaring 58 U.S. diplomats in Moscow and two in the city of Yekaterinburg to be "personae non gratae".
Moscow has already announced that it would expel 60 USA diplomats and close Washington's consulate in Saint Petersburg after the expulsion of its own diplomats and the closure of one of its U.S. consulates. His daughter was visiting from Russian Federation.
The US said it had been expecting the move and warned it may take further action.
The confrontation "looks not so much like a cold war than a fight without rules", said Konstantin Kosachyov, head of the foreign affairs committee of the Russian upper house of parliament.
