During the inauguration speech, Siddiqui said that such exhibitions and events were a great way to promote and preserve the attractive art of calligraphy, which is part of Islamic culture.
"They pushed themselves, and they really have incredible work here", she said.
"My piece is based on my personal issues with anxiety", she said. Participants of all ability levels were encouraged to submit art.
A wide variety of media was employed by the students, including pencils, inks, chalks, clay sculptures and more, she said.
Ellen said her installation should evoke empathy and understanding from viewers and was inspired by a song from the film "The Shining".
"I got a lot of comments about it - very positive comments", he said.

The art exhibit will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Saturdays until May 5, she said.
"The pieces [will speak] about the culture of gaming in a unique way that hopefully sheds some light on the subject and adds some humor in, too", Huddleston said.
"My pieces in the show are about power as a person of color and how authority's abuse of power affects me", Norman said.
"Calligraphy is kind of a lost art", he said.
Works at all three venues feature not just canvas art but work including the body, assemblage of objects and the abstraction of literature. Refreshments will be served at the event. A combination of therapy programs including music, art, dance and storytelling, the mission of GC's Creative Arts Therapy Department lines up nearly perfectly with the concept of the exhibition.
The exhibition is free to the public and located in rooms 230 and 240 of the Art and Communication Building.
