Markets open in green; Sensex, Nifty trade higher on global cues
This nine-session winning run is the longest for the equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty since September 2014.
The Hang Seng index closed 0.74 per cent up at 30,284.25, whereas Nikkei 225 settled 1.42 per cent up at 22,158.20.
Indian stocks clocked their ninth straight gains today, the longest winning streak in over three years, with the benchmark Sensex rising almost 90 points after the Met department's normal monsoon forecast further lifted investor sentiments.
Surging for the ninth straight session, the BSE Sensex gained about 90 points to close at 34,395 today as stocks made further headway powered by normal monsoon forecast and positive trend in Europe.
Indian markets continued to rally for the eighth day on Wednesday. "IT index slid despite a weak INR as lowering of margin guidance for FY19 added concerns in the mind of investors", Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services Ltd, said.
As many as 28 stocks in the Nifty index closed in the red with Hindustan Petroleum falling the most 3 per cent, followed by Axis Bank (down 2.76 per cent), Titan (down 1.98 per cent), Lupin (down 1.75 per cent) and Tech Mahindra (down 1.54 per cent).

Investors preferred to book profits on the consumer durables counter which saw record highs yesterday buoyed by the RBI's normal monsoon forecast.
Coming to global markets, most of other Asian markets ended higher and European shares were up in their early deals, tracking overnight gains at the Wall Street on strong earnings and outlook. Frankfurt's DAX was up 0.34%, while Paris CAC 40 rose 0.50%.
