Trump says Xi-Kim meeting went 'very well,' North Korean leader eager to meet him

Senior officials of the two Koreas met on Thursday to prepare for a rare inter-Korean summit, days after the nuclear-armed North's leader Kim Jong-un made his worldwide debut with a surprise trip to China.
"Two months from now, the inter-Korean summit and North Korea and the US summit will be held", stated South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-Wha.
No details on the summit agenda were released, with Unification Minister Cho Myong-gyon saying the two sides agreed more time was needed to sort out details, although they had "fully" exchanged opinions on the agenda.
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach told North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at a meeting on Friday that the IOC would cooperate with the North to prepare for its participation in the 2020 Tokyo and 2022 Beijing Olympic Games, the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) has reported. In this scenario, North Korea would be under the nuclear umbrella of China once North Korea gives up on nuclear weapons in response to its proposal and, in addition, South Korea is also under its influence once the US army in South Korea withdraws in return for peace negotiations that can follow the denuclearization.
Kim is due to meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in late April at the truce village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone, followed by landmark talks with US President Donald Trump which could come as early as May.

Kim Jong-un on tour?
The third summit ever between the Koreas could prove significant in the global diplomatic push to resolve the standoff over the North's nuclear program. A briefing for Mr Trump on the meeting included "a personal message from President Xi to President Trump", she added.
It is in Mr Xi's interest to have a say in any US-North Korea agreement and US-based analysts see his meeting with Mr Kim as a sign of Beijing moving to preserve its relevance, and North Korea bringing China into consultations as a balance to the United States.
Consequently, the recent summit between the Chinese and North Korean leaders implies a significant difficulty on the part of the USA, which is in a trade war against China with its summit with the North around the corner.
Officials from South Korea are also expected to attend the meeting, marking the conference as the first inter-Korean talks in over a decade. Xinhua also said Mr Kim met President Xi Jinping and other senior Chinese officials.
The North Korean leader's engagement with the worldwide community has sparked speculation that he may try to meet other leaders.
