Giuliani adds muscle, star power to Trump's legal team

Jeff Sessions told White House lawyer Don McGahn that he might step down as attorney general if Rod Rosenstein is fired, The Washington Post reported Friday citing people familiar with the conversation.

Jeff Sessions, long one of the most unprincipled little weasels in all of Washington, DC, appears to have discovered that he's a vertebrate, telling the White House that if Trump fires Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, he will resign his position as Attorney General as well.

Trump's fury toward Rosenstein reached its apex last week after it surfaced that Rosenstein had greenlit the FBI's decision to raid the personal property of Trump's longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen.

The phone call came amid a series of attacks on Rosenstein and special counsel Robert Mueller by Trump, following the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on April 9 on the home and office of the President's personal attorney Michael Cohen.

In the wake of the revelations, Trump openly discussed firing Rosenstein among his advisers and the White House drafted a list of talking points meant to discredit the deputy attorney general. He's also reportedly called Rosenstein "Mr. Peepers", a 1950s sitcom character.

Sessions himself was thought to be a target of Trump last summer. A senior administration official told The Post that Sessions does not approve of the way Trump has treated Rosenstein and has felt that way for months. The Attorney General was attacked by the president on Twitter for his decision to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation, and when asked whether he would consider firing Sessions, Trump responded, "We'll see what happens".

It wasn't the first time Sessions had asked White House officials about Rosenstein's standing with the president.
