Shahid Afridi’s latest tweet
Recently, former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi voiced his concerns about the ongoing violence in Kashmir. He has often praised India's hospitality, an act that has time and again irked his fans back home in Pakistan. While remaining silent on the Pakistan-Occupied -Kashmir and the denial of rights to people living there, Afridi chooses to call Srinagar and adjoining districts as "Indian-Occupied-Kashmir". Unfortunately, the phrase in his tweet did not go down with many, especially Indians. He alleged that the government was trying to "clamp voice of self-determination & independence".
The unorthodox Pakistan batsman didn't just stop there but also urged United Nations and other worldwide agencies to step in to prevent what he termed "bloodshed". In the operations carried out jointly by the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force, 13 militants have reportedly been killed in the past couple of days. Three civilians had also been killed and over a hundred injured as mobs clashed with security forces. The duo was responsible for shooting Indian Army officer Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz dead in May 2017 when the officer was at his home on a holiday.
Much like Afridi, even PTI leader Imran Khan has also posted his disapproval towards the current situation in Kashmir.

Afridi retired from global cricket in 2017 and played 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 98 T20Is for Pakistan. He led his country in the ICC World Cup 2011.
