Rwanda has been selected as host of the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), to be held in 2020. As Elizabeth mentioned, her father, King George VI, became leader upon the Commonwealth's formation in 1949 and filled that role until his death at 1952, at which point Elizabeth took over.
On Thursday, the Queen said it was her "sincere wish" that her son would one day lead the Commonwealth.
Commonwealth leaders meeting in London said in a statement that the next head of the organization "shall be His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales".
The Dr the Rt Hon Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, who also addressed the final CHOGM Press Conference, commended the Leaders' decision to vote Prince Charles as head of the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth is one of the world's oldest political association of states, with its roots in the British Empire when some countries were ruled directly or indirectly by Britain.

The prime minister attended different sessions of the meeting on Thursday and Friday. The African Union General assembly that took place in Kigali in July 2016 with more than 50 heads of State and government was the first of its kind and was followed by a series of many others; the World Economic Forum, Transform Africa and very recently, the extraordinary African Union General Assembly.
