The California Highway Patrol announced in a press release Monday that authorities are continuing the search for Devonte Hart, 15; Sierra Hart, 12; and Hannah Hart 16; three adopted siblings missing after a auto driven by one of their mothers went over a cliff into the Pacific Ocean, killing both parents and three adopted children. Speaking at an evening news conference, Baarts said the electronic information combined with the lack of skid marks or signs the driver braked led authorities to believe the crash was purposeful. The search continued for three more children believed to have been in the vehicle when it went over a scenic coastal overlook and landed on rocks in the Pacific Ocean below.

"This specific location is very hard to search because the ocean currents and tides are strong, it's unpredictable, and the murkiness of the water makes it hard to see", said Capt. Greg Van Patten, a spokesperson for the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office. "They're abusing her", said Dana Dekalb.

According to neighbors and court records, the family has had troubles in the past, carrying over to a recent investigation into abuse or neglect with the Washington Department of Social and Health Services.

The Hart family gained national attention when a photo of 15-year-old Devonte Hart went viral.

And in 2011, when the family was living in Minnesota, Sarah pleaded guilty to assault after hitting their then-6-year-old daughter, leaving the tot bruised.

The Hart family's two moms and three of the six adopted children were found dead; the three others are missing and presumed dead, possibly washed out to sea.

Authorities said the family left OR to escape intense scrutiny that began in 2014, when Devonte Hart was photographed sobbing in the arms of a white police officer in Portland, where people had gathered to support protests in Ferguson, Missouri.

Dana DeKalb, who lives near the Harts' home, told the NBC affiliate KGW that she had called child services after one of the children, Devonte, had visited her and her husband, Bruce, multiple times asking for food, which he said was being withheld as punishment. DeKalb told HLN last Thursday that Devonte and one of his sisters had said they were not being properly treated. The teen also asked him and his wife to call Child Protective Services, DeKalb said.

Investigators also did not find any marks showing that the vehicle either accelerated or slowed down before it reached the cliff, or any evidence that it crashed into the embankment as it "traversed towards the tidal zone below", according the documents cited by KPTV. The agency attempted to make contact with the family in person on Friday, March 23 as well as last Monday and Tuesday, West said.

Angry at the refusal, the four and five of their accomplishes killed Sirkas family members with rods and sharp weapons when Sirka was not at home on March 14.

"To the best of my knowledge, there was not a suicide note found at the residence", Captain Baarts said.

In interviews with friends and relatives, "there have been red flags", Baarts said.

Alcohol and toxicology reports are expected to take four to six weeks to come back, Van Patten said. Family friend Max Ribner took issue with the notion the wreck was something other than a tragic accident. While the Hart family was apparently concerned about social justice, neighbors say Jennifer and Sara Hart mistreated their children.
