Tampa Bay picks up $21 million option on Jameis Winston's contract for 2019
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs have picked up the fifth-year option on Winston's contract, thus paying him $20.9 million for the 2019 season.
Under the NFL's collective-bargaining agreement, the four-year rookie contracts of first-round draft choices come with a fifth-year team option, which has to be exercised between each player's third and fourth seasons.
The former first-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Winston threw for 3,504 yards with 19 touchdowns in only 13 games, missing three due to a shoulder injury.

In addition, Winston was the subject of an National Football League investigation into an allegation made by an Uber driver, who stated that Winston groped her crotch during a 2016 ride in Arizona. It will be Winston's job to lead them back up the standings during his next two seasons.
