Facebook permissions have included an opt-in to access text message and phone call data through user's Android mobile devices. They say the data is used "to improve people's experience across Facebook" by helping to connect with others. The alarm bells will be ringing at Facebook because the lawsuit seeks class action status on behalf of all affected users as well as asking for unspecified damages. As users began downloading exactly what data Facebook has on them in the wake of Cambridge Analytica, however, many realized the tool also tracked who they called and when. The data is not sold to third parties, it said. But the vast majority of the post is written in the present tense, and the example disclaimer Facebook posts - which does explicitly say the app will "continuously upload ... your call and text history" - was only introduced in 2016, a year after the feature was initially introduced.
"When this feature is enabled, uploading your contacts also allows us to use information like when a call or text was made or received".
Now, the social media platform is being sued by the National Fair Housing Alliance, Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence, Inc., and the Fair Housing Council of Greater San Antonio for its discriminatory ad practices.

A weather warning has been issued for all of Ireland
A weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann with heavy rain, sleet and snow predicted for Easter Sunday and Monday. Tuesday is forecast to be another mix of showers and sunny spells, with the risk of thunder and hail showers in places.
In a statement, Facebook denied it had collected the information without users' permission and said it had taken the information from the Android versions of Messenger and then Facebook Lite. According to the ads, a quiz app built by a Cambridge University researcher leaked Facebook data of millions of people four years ago. Facebook says that when the sync contacts option is turned off, previous contact information that was synced to the messaging platform is also deleted.
The beleaguered company, already facing three worldwide inquiries and four lawsuits for sharing the information of 50 million users with a political data analytics firm, has confirmed it recorded the phone calls and personal messages of many of its users but argued they had "expressly agreed" to handing over the information and it helped provide them with a "better experience" online. Among the newspapers with the ads were The New York Times and The Washington Post in the USA, and The Sunday Times and The Sunday Telegraph in the United Kingdom.
The lawsuit comes amid an ongoing controversy over the data privacy practices of the world's largest social network, which is frequented by 2 billion people every month.
