Titans pick up Marcus Mariota's 5th-year option

The Titans plan to exercise the fifth-year option on quarterback Marcus Mariota, which keeps him under contract in Tennessee through the 2019 season. That'll be the next step in keeping Mariota around, but the Titans bought themselves another offseason to work that out.

The second overall pick of the 2015 draft is now under contract for the upcoming season at a cap hit of just over $7.7 million. Titans general manager Jon Robinson made the announcement ahead of the May 3 deadline to declare a fifth-year option for players drafted in 2015.

He led the Titans to 9-7 records in 2016 and 2017, and the latter resulted in a playoff berth and a win in the Wild Card Round. Although, his regression may have a lot to do with the offensive system the team was running last season, which did not really play to his strengths.
