The Dale's Supermarket Sweep host died at his home earlier on Wednesday.

The remaining episodes of Dale Winton's Florida Fly Drive were due to air on Channel 5 in June after they were postponed in the wake of the Florida school shooting.

Les Dennis tweeted: "So sad and shocked to hear that Dale Winton has died".

He also hosted 18 series of the lottery programme, "In It To Win It", fronting the show until its run came to an end in 2010.

The cause of Dale Winton's death is not now known.

He became a household name when he began hosting Supermarket Sweep in 1993, which was filmed at Central Television's Lenton Lane Studios in Nottingham.

Winton's mother died following an overdose just days after after he turned 21.

In recent years the once prolific star disappeared from TV screens and in an interview earlier this year he claimed he was keeping a low profile after undergoing several rounds of surgery.

'I could have taken myself off the TV but I didn't. Listen, there are worse things in the world - but I had depression and I didn't realise.

'I always thought, "get over yourself".

No further details were immediately announced.
