Trump meeting with Apple's Tim Cook on trade
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced the visit Thursday.
The senior White House official said Trump "is talking to all sorts of people on it", noting Trump's barrage of private calls is a "recent development".
Neither the WHCA, the Secret Service, nor the ODNI immediately responded to Ars' request for comment.
Apple and other hardware makers have deep ties with China, where many of their products are built for export around the world.
This week isn't Cook's first encounter with Trump. During a business conference in China last month, he said the firm wants the two countries to resolve their differences.
The Information Technology Industry Council, a lobbying group for companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft, previously has rebuffed Trump's tariffs as "entirely counterproductive" - and stressed that the result would be higher prices on tech products that "penalize USA consumers". But the second could have a more direct impact on USA shoppers by targeting cellphones, computers and other consumer goods and prompting price increases at Apple stores and other United States retailers. He also spoke with the president's top economic adviser Larry Kudlow and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

Donald Trump and Tim Cook met at the White House on Wednesday to discuss trade. During his election campaign, Trump urged supporters to boycott Apple and criticised the company for making its products in China.
The president frequently uses Cook and Apple as an example of how he says his tax cut package is creating jobs because it spurred the company to repatriate earnings it had held overseas.
Trump's visit has been anticipated for more than a year, after May was the first foreign leader to be hosted by the president at the White House after his inauguration. Both Cook and the president have met many times before over the past year after Trump made a point of convening with executives of big companies.
The CEO was in D.C. on Tuesday for the state dinner, where he brought Apple's vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives Lisa Jackson.
Donald Trump is to visit the United Kingdom on Friday 13 July, the White House has confirmed.
That visit was planned for February but it was cancelled in January amid fears of mass demonstrations.
