He blamed the Democrats for "Catch & Release' which essentially a rude way of describing a policy which grants people caught with unlawful immigration status a release before their hearing".

It's become an annual tradition, and getting publicity has always been a goal for this and other so-called "caravans" that periodically make their way through Mexico.

He accused congressional Democrats of stymieing a potential deal to protect "dreamers", after Trump canceled the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program last fall.

While Trump said "no deal" for the DACA program, it is still operational.

Since then, Trump tied any DACA legislation to funding for his wall on the US-Mexico border.

Officials from the U.S., Canada and Mexico are supposed to meet in the United States next month for the eighth round of talks about NAFTA, although Washington has not announced dates yet.

"A lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of DACA", Trump said.

Outside the church, the president said the Democrats "blew it" after having "had a great chance". In one of the tweets, he referenced caravans of immigrants crossing the U.S. By travelling together, the immigrants hope to protect themselves from the crime and extortion that makes the route through Mexico unsafe.

During the Fox segment, the chief of the National Border Patrol Council union said the immigrants would wreak "chaos and havoc" if they made it to their destination.
