Nancy Leong, a law professor at the University of Denver, was in an Uber vehicle on a highway leading to the Denver International airport when the driver reportedly said he would take her to a hotel instead and pulled off the highway. The driver did not unlock the doors until nearby construction workers noticed her.

She added the statement left her terrified. He said he was going to "take me to a hotel" and got off the highway.

Two unnamed women filed a proposed class action suit against Uber in November 2017, accusing the company of poor driver vetting that has led to female passengers enduring sexual harassment, including rape.

At a stop light, Leong took action, demanding that she be let out of the vehicle, whose doors she says the driver refused to unlock. "I was about 10 seconds from putting my foot through the back passenger window", Leong wrote, demanding to hear back from the company without delay. "I'd like to know what you're going to do about this", Leong said in a tweet. When Leong demanded the driver open the trunk so that she could grab her suitcase, she wrote, the driver got out of the auto and came toward her.

Thankfully, Leong said, the new Uber was nothing like the first one and she managed to make it to the airport on time.

'Remember we are at a stop light at the bottom of a highway off ramp. Uber says that it has reached out to both Leong and the driver as part of the investigation. She thanked the presence of the construction workers for encouraging the driver to back down.
