Christine Shawcroft, the Labour party official at the centre of a bitter public row over anti-Semitism among members, has quit the party's ruling body with immediate effect.
She wrote: "This whole row is being stirred up to attack Jeremy, as we all know".

"I have been trying to support members who have been affected by all the shenanigans around Council selections, and thought this case was just another one of those. That someone who has spent his whole life fighting racism in all its forms should find himself being accused of not doing enough to counter it, absolutely beggars belief".
The party leader's message comes amid fresh anger from within and beyond Labour at the party's failure to root out anti-Semitism from its ranks.
"This is highly offensive to the Jewish community and all those of us who wish to see the scourge of anti-Semitism eradicated".
As the issue of anti-Semitism within the UK Labour Party returns to the headlines, a former Speaker of the House of Commons has called for a special party conference to discuss the issue, warning that it could cost the party the next election. We all need to do better.
Ms Shawcroft is understood to have spoken to Mr Corbyn who backed her decision to resign and thanked her for her service.

The Labour leader added: "In the fight against antisemitism, I am your ally and I always will be".
She said: "There is very clearly a real issue, a huge piece of work that needs to be done in the Labour party, around modern antisemitism and giving people the tools to recognise when legitimate criticism of Israel crosses the line into antisemitism", she said.
Scientist and broadcaster Lord Winston said hostility to Jews had "infected the Labour Party so it has become endemic".
'And I pledge my full energy to securing for our country the Labour government under Jeremy Corbyn that it so desperately needs'.
Shawcroft said she would remain a staunch Labour activist, but questions may be raised in the days ahead over her future as a director of the Corbyn-supporting campaign group, Momentum.
"When this row first began - a couple of years ago it's really been going on now - I confess to you, because I know the history of the Labour Party, I was sceptical about it".
The Observer newspaper, meanwhile, said Sunday that the Labour Party had a backlog of more than 70 cases of alleged anti-Semitism to deal with and that new allegations were still surfacing.
