He is now warning others about the side effects of 'pregabalin'.

Purdy broke his foot in 2012, and said that once he switched from Codeine and Tramadol to Pregabalin, it was just "four or five days" until his sexuality felt different.

The company which manufactures the the medicine has said it is "an important and effective treatment option for many people living with chronic neuropathic pain, generalised anxiety disorder and epilepsy", and that the clinical effectiveness of this medicine had been demonstrated.

He said that he noticed that his attraction for women kind of subsided and he was willing to get male attention.

In a surprising turn of events, an English man says he was turned gay by the painkillers he took after he met with an accident as the drug was prescribed for a broken foot. "I was with a girlfriend I had been with for around six months".

Scott Purdy began to identify himself as homosexual, and as unusual as it may sound, he blamed the painkillers for making him gay in a short span of time. Moreover, before breaking up, he confessed to his girlfriend that he could not figure out what was happening to him. I stopped taking it for a few weeks and that desire for men just left.

His unusual claim gained some media attention and in an interview with The Mirror he explains that he was curious in his youth, but it wasn't until he started taking the medication that those feelings resurfaced.

Scott, of Louth, Lincolnshire, says he soon realised that he had developed an attraction to men and had actually turned gay.

Writing on his website, he admitted that he didn't know why this reaction had been noted by some patients but was adamant that "it can" happen.

'Pregabalin is also used to control paranoia and anxiety. The 23-year-old Brit began taking the painkiller Lyrica while recovering from an accident.

Lead researcher Dr Rod Mitchell commented on the results, saying: "We would encourage women to think carefully before taking painkillers in pregnancy and to follow existing guidelines - taking the lowest possible dose for the shortest time possible".

Dr. Mike Berry, a consultant clinical psychologist, also told Indy100 that Scott may have had his sexuality issues resolved due to the drug. And right from the start I didn't know if it was the pill [that] did this to me or whether it opened me up to be happier. Besides, his homosexuality may have been just dormant until now and the drug helped him accept his real self.
