State television and Syrian newspapers said information indicated that, under the deal, the group would hand over heavy and mid-sized weapons and acknowledge the restoration of state sovereignty over Douma.

A civilian committee taking part in the negotiations with Russian Federation said a deal had been reached "to evacuate humanitarian cases to northern Syria".

The army command said military operations were continuing in the outskirts of the city of Douma, controlled by the Jaish al-Islam rebel group, the last patch of eastern Ghouta still held by insurgents. "But if they give us the choice of dying or leaving, it will be another matter".
"The armed forces' formations, aided by allied forces, wrapped up military operations in Damascus countryside's Eastern Ghouta, with full control established all over its cities and towns", said the statement.
Also on Saturday, the British Ministry of Defense confirmed that Sergeant Matt Tonroe from the 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment was also killed in the Syria action "whilst on duty in the Middle East on the 29th March 2018".
