Dawood Ibrahim's Karachi Address Mentioned In New UN Terror List
In a big blow to 2008 Mumbai attacks mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, the United States of America on Tuesday designated his political front, Milli Muslim League (MML), a foreign terrorist organisation, as per ANI. The US also added Tehreek-e-Azadi-e-Kashmir (TAJK) to the list of terrorist groups.
Though the Milli Muslim league has not been registered by Pakistan's election regulator, Election Commission of Pakistan, even then the USA amendments, would make it virtually impossible for the group to be on the list of political parties, with general elections drawing closer.
According to the press release issued by the US Department of State on April 2, LeT was designated as the foreign terrorist organisation (FTO) under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Ambassador Nathan A. Sales, the coordinator for counterterrorism at the Department of State explained that the shuffling "take aim at Lashkar-e-Taiba's efforts to circumvent sanctions and deceive the public about its true character".
"He warns, 'Do not make mistakes!", no matter, what name LeT choose for itself, it will remain a terrorist organisation.
"Treasury is targeting the Milli Muslim League and a group of seven global terrorists who are complicit in Lashkar-e-Taiba's attempts to undermine Pakistan's political process", she added.
The US has demanded the arrest of Saeed, who carries a $10 million US bounty, after he was set free by a Lahore court which refused to extend his detention.
The amended FTO designated list already has the Lashkar-e-Taiba on it.

In a major blow to MML, the Election Commission of Pakistan has also rejected its application to be recognised as a political party.
According to the statement, "Among other consequences of the designations, LeT's property and interests in property subject to the United States jurisdiction are blocked, and USA persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with the group".
Terrorism designations "expose" and "isolate" organisations and individuals, and "deny" them access to the U.S. financial system. Moreover, designations can assist the law enforcement activities of USA agencies and other governments. Its leader, Hafiz Saeed, is also designated as an SDGT.
The Treasury Department also said that MML president Saifullah Khalid, General Secretary Fayyaz Ahmad and five others have also been put under the scanner.
The MML was created in August 2017 by Saeed himself as a political front for LeT, but MML was not able to produce its clearance certificate by Pakistan's interior ministry for registration as a political party as directed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
"The LeT is largely blamed for the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, which killed 166 people, including six Americans".
"In a bid to avoid United States sanctions, LeT began operating under the name TAJK in January past year and carried out terrorist activities under that banner, " the U.S. department said.
