Russia warns US against military action as response to chemical attack in Syria

Sky News reported that May was expected to ask her ministers on Thursday to approve Britain's involvement in military action against Syria's chemical weapons infrastructure.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday in a Tweet told Russian Federation to "get ready" for US missile strikes in Syria, seeming to confirm that the United States will launch punitive strikes against the government of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad over the suspected chemical attack his forces are accused of carrying out.

Lebanon's Middle East Airlines, one of the few to fly directly over Syria, is rerouting those flights temporarily, a Beirut airport source said.

After meeting for more than two hours, the Cabinet backed May's plan to work with the US and France "to coordinate an global response".

Israel is reportedly anticipating a US strike. Trump responded then by launching dozens of Navy cruise missiles at a Syrian airfield.

Prime Minister Theresa May held an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss joining mooted strikes by the USA and allies, with ministers agreeing "on the need to take action", her Downing Street office said in a statement. He said any action would "target chemical weapons" stocks.

Both Syria and Russian Federation have said reports of the attack were fabricated by rebels and rescue workers in Douma and have accused the United States of seeking to use it as a pretext to attack the government.

Asked whether the USA military was ready to conduct an attack in Syria if ordered, Mattis replied, "We stand ready to provide military options if they're appropriate, as the president determined".
