Walkie-talkie fury spares Lehmann

A teary Darren Lehmann has quit as coach of Australia's cricket team, with footage of a distraught Steve Smith convincing him the time was right to resign. "He genuinely loves and respects his players".

(AAP) The ball tampering scandal has rocked Australian cricket. "We know we have let so many people down". "He sent a message to say "what the hell is going on", except he didn't use the word "hell", Sutherland told reporters at the Australia team hotel in Johannesburg.

It's not just the players who have suffered, though. "Saying goodbyes to the players was the toughest thing I have ever had to do", he said in front of a packed press conference room at the Wanderers Stadium on Thursday where he added that the series, which Proteas is leading 2-1 with a match to a match to spare, has been unbelievable.

"I'm ultimately responsible for the culture of the team and I've been thinking about my position for a while".

"(Cricket Australia's head of integrity) Iain Roy in his investigation found that to be the fact.

"Discipline, consistency of behaviour and accountability for performance are all key ingredients that need to improve", Sutherland said at the time.

Anthony Joshua: Deontay Wilder does not want to fight me
Britain's Anthony Joshua has added the WBO belt to his collection of titles with a win over Joseph Parker . Listen, AJ, please don't fight Wilder because he'll knock you spark out and take my fifty million.

Lehmann's resignation comes at the end of a tumultuous week for Australian cricket which saw Cricket Australia hand out one year bans to captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner following a ball tampering scandal that occurred during the third Test in Cape Town last week.

"It has been an unbelievably good series, it is great playing against South Africa and we must try to get back and level the series".

A sleep-deprived Lehmann thanked his family for support, overlooking World Cup glory and Ashes series wins when asked to nominate his proudest moment as coach.

The former Australian batsman said the Test starting on Friday would be his last in charge.

He won 30 Tests as coach, lost 19 and drew eight.
