But Cohen developed a "distaste" for the 44th president, ABC News said. (On CNN, he had to admit that he was ineligible to vote for Trump in the NY primary.) His opportune switch is similar to that of presidential son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, who was known for donating to Democratic causes before aligning with Trump.

Michael D'Antonio, another Trump biographer, recalled Mr. Cohen calling him soon before the book was published.
"And Cohen started laughing, and he said, 'I don't have a problem with the title personally, '" Mr. D'Antonio recalled. "I think he'd tell them go piss up a rope", the lawyer said.

That treatment apparently entailed Trump constantly insulting or threatening to get rid of Cohen.
"Mr. Cohen is a key witness in this action and Defendants' most knowledgeable person with respect to the facts", asserts his attorney Brent Blakely, noting that Cohen negotiated the settlement agreement with Daniels' previous lawyer and arranged for the payment. "I think his abusive behavior to Michael is animated by his feeling that Michael is inadequate".
If Trump, a known narcissist, treats Cohen poorly, perhaps it has something to do with Cohen's nearly pathological need for the president's approval and has thanklessly raised campaign funds, squashed embarrassing news stories, and performed other demeaning tasks.
Among other things, Trump has in the past mocked Cohen for overpaying for Trump's own real estate properties, and has also twice threatened to fire Cohen.
The search warrant has not been made public and initial reports suggested that it was about the infamous Stormy Daniels payment, which the Right leapt on as a flimsy pretext to go on a "fishing expedition" of the President and one of his top lieutenants.
Hopefully, for Cohen's sake, he's smart enough to realize that it's not worth doing hard time for Trump. Just ask Reince Priebus, Sean Spicer, and Steve Bannon, though, they weren't facing the prospect of jail time.
