YouTube Kids to Get Whitelisted Version That Shows Only Curated Content

In November a year ago, YouTube stepped up enforcement of its guidelines for videos aimed at children, the unit of Alphabet's Google said on Wednesday, responding to criticism that it has failed to protect children from adult content.

According to BuzzFeed News, an updated version of YouTube Kids will allow parents to check a box and allow only whitelisted content approved by humans instead of the algorithmic feed. The buzz around the water cooler is that the new version of YouTube Kids is only a couple of weeks away from being launched.

The US Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) and a number of advocacy groups filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission on Monday, accusing Google's YouTube video hosting of illegal collection of children's data, the CNN broadcaster reported.

Liverpool are planning to make their first signing from rivals Manchester United in 54 years, stunning reports have claimed. Ligue 1 giants Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on him so there is no shortage of suitors.

The complaint specifies that while Google says YouTube is only intended for those above the age of 13, it operates knowing full well that millions of children below that age use its service. The groups include which include Common Sense Media, the Center for Digital Democracy and Parents Across America. "Protecting kids and families has always been a top priority for us", a spokesman for the video site said in a statement.

"Across the board we have scaled up resources to ensure that thousands of people are working around the clock to monitor, review and make the right decisions across our ads and content policies", Wright said. Even though the algorithm used for the app is set on "kid friendly", a YouTuber was quoted in the report as saying "Sometimes we miss the mark".
