4.5-magnitude quake strikes in California

Two earthquakes measuring 4.5 and 3.2 magnitude rumbled through the Palm Springs area early Monday, rattling nerves but not causing any damage, officials said. As the crow flies, it was not far from the San Bernardino Mountains.

The quake first hit at 4:49 a.m. with a depth of seven miles.

A fourth tremor rattled a point 6.2 miles north of Cabazon around 10:11 a.m. USGS measured it at a magnitude 2.6 and at a depth of 7.3 miles.

Four smaller quakes were recorded near the initial epicenter, with the latest being a 2.6 preliminary magnitude quake at 9:04 p.m. The U.S. Geological Society reports the Cabazon quake was felt across a wide area of Southern California including the Inland Empire, and Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange counties.

No injuries or damages have been reported.

The City of Malibu used the quake as a reminder for residents to prepare for "the big one".
