Dame Barbara Windor's husband has spoken out about his wife's Alzheimer's diagnosis.
"So rather than me living in fear she might get confused or upset, they'll know that if her behaviour seems odd, it's due to Alzheimer's and accept it for what it is". Meanwhile, Pam St. Clement, who played Pat Butcher in the BBC soap until 2012, called into Thursday's (10May18) Loose Women to speak about her close friend, telling the panel: "I've known since the outset of the diagnosis and my thoughts have been with Scott and her the whole time".
"Secondly, I want the public to know because they are naturally very drawn to Barbara and she loves talking to them. I'm doing this interview - and I would like to make clear that I'm not being paid for it and it's the only one I'll be doing - because I know that rumours are circulating in showbusiness circles".
By 2016 it was agreed she would leave EastEnders for the final time.
"We walked out of the neurologist's office and it was nearly as if she chose to forget what we had just been told". And I understood because who would want to take that in?
"It was important to her to keep going through life without people looking at her in any different way".

The couple have kept the diagnosis a secret until now, but Mr Mitchell said it's becoming more hard to keep under wraps as her condition has deteriorated further since his wife's 80th birthday in August previous year.
