In yet another case of polarisation and creating conflict over religious issues, The Akbar Road signboard leading off New Delhi's central India Gate circle, has overnight been pasted over with a poster saying "Maharana Pratap Road", reported National Herald. Delhi Police later removed the poster and is considering filing a case against unknown persons for defacing public property, though no complaint has been filed by anyone. The incident took place late on Tuesday night. It is to be noted that Akbar Road is the address of several Union ministers and MPs, including BJP chief Amit Shah.
According to the media reports, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), under whose zone Akbar Road falls, is investigating the matter and is also trying to identify the unidentified miscreants.
Past year in May, a BJP leader wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that Babar Road in the national capital be renamed after Lieutenant Umar Fayaz who was killed by militants in his home state of Jammu and Kashmir.
