Amazon's bid to test autonomous drones for delivery lost out to other companies when the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) announced on Wednesday that it has granted permission to 10 regions in the United States to begin tests, paving the way for such technology to be integrated into USA airspace. This latter point is particularly crucial for drone-based deliveries.

The Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday is unveiling 10 pilot projects from counties, cities, states and universities that have been selected to help speed the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones including many major corporate partners.

The 10 pilot drone test projects selected from 149 applications are in California, Tennessee, North Dakota, Nevada, Kansas and other states.

Furthermore, the state of North Carolina confirmed that Apple was included in its successful bid to launch a drone pilot testing program.

Europe Battles To Save Iran Nuclear Deal After US Exit
Trump's decision was swiftly denounced by officials in Iran , who accused the USA of reneging on its commitments. France's foreign minister said on Wednesday the Iran deal was not dead despite U.S.

"We're focused on developing a safe operating model for drones in the airspace and we will continue our work to make this a reality", said Brian Huseman, Amazon's vice president of public policy.

Earlier today, a report explained that Apple was among a handful of companies who had applied for government permission to test drone usage beyond current FAA limits.

The program aims to identify security and privacy risks, improve communications between local, state and tribal jurisdictions, balance local and national interests related to drones and accelerate the approval of operations that now require special authorization.

"Data gathered from these pilot projects will form the basis of a new regulatory framework to safely integrate drones into our national airspace", said Secretary Chao. The FAA has no requirements or voluntary standards for electrically broadcasting information to identify an unmanned aircraft.

One rule submitted would allow drones to fly over people while another proposal submitted would allow for remote identification and tracking of unmanned aircraft in flight.
