The announcement came hours after Trump welcomed three Americans who had been held prisoner in North Korea back home on Thursday.

US President Donald Trump said details about the time and place of his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would be announced "within three days".

North Korean state media says they were arrested either for subversion or "hostile acts" against the government.

Three Americans freed from prison in North Korea have arrived back in the United States a day after their release.

The summit, which has been in the works since Trump accepted Kim's invitation to meet in March, will be the first ever meeting between a sitting United States president and North Korean leader. In a tweet, Mr Trump wrote: "The highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong Un and myself will take place in Singapore on June 12th".

The three men had been jailed for anti-state activities and placed in labour camps.
