Albert Pujols has become the 32nd player in major league history to reach 3,000 hits, getting a broken-bat single to right field off the Mariners' Mike Leake in the fifth inning Friday night in Seattle to join the exclusive club. We're used to home run milestones in the present era, but Pujols is only the fourth player to amass 3,000 hits and 600 home runs, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Alex Rodriguez. Now in his 18th major league season, the 38-year-old has a long list of accomplishments that make him a hands-down candidate for Cooperstown. He is seventh on baseball's career homers list after hitting his 600th last season.
What a career it's been for Pujols, as he's surely to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer one day. His 308 intentional walks are the second most all-time and while he is just the second player all-time to get 300 free passes, he will certainly not catch up to the leader, Barry Bonds, who was walked intentionally an insane 688 times.
Pujols went on to single in the ninth inning, passing Roberto Clemente for No. 31 on the MLB's career list with his 3,001st hit.
The hits have not come as frequently of late as before, but the first 10 seasons playing with the St. Louis Cardinals Pujols enjoyed one of the best ever decades for a Major League Baseball hitter.

Manager Mike Scioscia said Ohtani's bullpen session on Friday went well and as long as there aren't any issues he's expected to start the series finale in Seattle.
The Angels placed C Martin Maldonado on bereavement list and selected the contract of C Juan Graterol from the minors. Asdrubal Cabrera and Todd Frazier each smacked two-run homers and drove in three for the Mets, who are 0-4 on their homestand and 6-12 since an 11-1 start.
