Another Top EPA Official Is Leaving, Sources Say

In some cases, those trips were planned for months with the help of influential Washington, D.C., lobbyists, the Post reports, raising further questions about Pruitt's use of taxpayer funds and proximity to lobbyists who may have business before the agency.

Another high-level aide to Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt is leaving the agency this week, as federal investigators continue to scrutinize the administrator's spending and management decisions.

Bowman joined EPA from the American Chemistry Council, where she was director of issues and advocacy communications.

A source close to Bowman said she is leaving to handle communications for Sen.

"I leave extremely thankful for the opportunity to serve the Trump administration and Administrator Pruitt", Bowman said. Unlike Bowman, both men had come under scrutiny for their role in the scandals swirling around Pruitt. Freedman suggested to Pruitt's aides that the Institute of Public Affairs, a climate skeptic think tank, serve as co-host of Pruitt's visit, reported The Guardian this week, citing emails recently released to the Sierra Club under the Freedom of Information Act.

Yet Bowman sought to remove herself from the push to challenge coverage of allegations of ethical misconduct by Pruitt, said two EPA officials who requested anonymity to speak candidly.

Pruitt, already the target of multiple investigations for lavish spending and possible ethics violations, relied on the same lobbyist who helped plan a controversial trip to Morocco in December to arrange details of travel to Australia earlier past year, CNN reported on Thursday.

Pruitt unexpectedly announced Tuesday that Perrotta was stepping down from his EPA security job.

FDIC had found reason to believe Kelly "violated a law or regulation, by entering into an agreement pertaining to a loan" without FDIC approval, according to a consent agreement that Kelly signed in May 2017 and that E&E News obtained.
