According to WFTS Tampa Bay, 18-year-old Floridian Deanna Recktenwald was sitting in church when the Apple Watch she had received for Christmas told her to "seek medical attention" because her resting heart rate was 160 beats per minute (60 to 100 beats a minute is normal, according to the Mayo Clinic).
But, over the next couple hours, the Apple Watch kept giving Deanna the same warning as her heart rate climbed to 190. At that point, Stacey took her daughter to a local urgent care to confirm the watch's reading. Deanna's mother who is a registered nurse was shocked with the accuracy of Apple Watch and rushed her daughter to a walk-in clinic where a doctor has confirmed about the high heart rate.
Shortly after, doctors discovered the teen was reportedly suffering from chronic kidney disease and she was in kidney failure. She now has permanent kidney damage and will likely require a new organ in the coming years, Stacey said, according to ABC News.
