Asbel Kiprop, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in Bejing and three-time world champion over 1500m in 2011, 2013 and 2015 has reportedly tested positive for EPO in an out of competition test, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

While the Kenyan authorities have not yet confirmed that it was Kiprop, local media have been reporting that another leading runner has failed a test. His agent, Federico Rosa, confirmed to Mailsport - who this evening broke the story - that he had "heard the same rumour" and was 'still trying to get confirmation'. I would not want to ruin all that I have worked for since my first global race in 2007.

A report in Kenya on Tuesday said a high profile runner who has "dominated world championships over the years" was embroiled in a doping scandal. "I hope I can prove that I am a clean athlete in every way possible".

Asbel Kiprop is widely regarded as the best 1500m runner of the past decade.

Several of Rosa's athletes have tested positive for banned substances including 2016 Olympic marathon champion Jemima Sumgong, former Boston and Chicago Marathon champion Rita Jeptoo and marathoner Mathew Kipsorio. Kiprop was upgraded to gold after Ramzi tested positive for CERA, a form of EPO.

Romain Grosjean crashed under the safety auto on lap 42, sliding into the wall while weaving in an attempt to heat up his tires. Debris from the crash was the likely culprit behind Bottas's tyre problem, according to the official Formula One website.

Kiprop's major breakthrough was in 2007 when he won the All-Africa Games 1500m gold, a follow up to 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships gold.

There has been no confirmation from the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (Adak) or Athletics Kenya (AK).

Kiprop became the latest athlete after another Olympic Marathon champion Jemima Sumgong failed same tests in 2017.

"I have worked with Federico Rosa since 2008", Kiprop said in a 2016 statement.

However, the Bahraini runner tested positive for a modern EPO and Kiprop and Willis moved up the podium.
