Audi halts diesel A6 and A7 deliveries due to software 'irregularities'

Audi has halted deliveries of seventh generation A6 and A7 models fitted with its V6 diesel engine after discovering "irregularities" in the unit's management software.
Around 60,000 vehicles world-wide have been fitted with the suspect V6TDI engines, the transport ministry said, adding that the pan-European road certification of the Audi models in question was issued in Luxemburg. We report any irregularities to the authorities because full clarification is our top priority.
The German transport ministry has now summoned Audi for a formal hearing about whether the units were fitted with a "defeat device" to help the cars pass emissions tests.
According to the publication, the KBA has not yet proclaimed the emissions aberrations are part of a "defeat device" which has seen parent company Volkswagen Group fined more than $27billion and forced to buy back affected vehicles in some countries since the dieselgate scandal broke in late 2015.

Some vehicle makers are now distancing themselves from diesel engines, with the likes of Volvo and more recently Nissan saying they will ditch diesel technology in future.
The 200kW variant of the Gen2 Evo V6 TDI is the only version affected, which had made its way into some 60,000 cars, over half of which were sold in Germany.
The German news magazine understands the alleged new emissions-testing cheat device centres around the AdBlue system, which uses a urea solution to convert harmful oxides of nitrogen (NOx) into water vapour and nitrogen.
Audi says it discovered the issue last week and went to the KBA not long after with the evidence.
