The case of an Italian-Pakistani woman's death has reached to a decisive point as the forensic report, on Wednesday, revealed that Sana Cheema was strangled to death.

However, reports in Italian newspapers alleged Cheema was murdered because she wanted to marry a man in Italy against her family's wishes.

In 2016, the father and the ex-husband of a British-Pakistani woman, Samia Shahid, were charged by Punjab police in connection with her rape and murder.

Afterwards, her body was exhumed for the postmortem.

"It has now been confirmed that she was strangled to death". Cheema's family declared her death "accidental" and buried her in a graveyard far from their residence on April 18, raising suspicion. However, members of the Pakistani community in Italy have said she was "killed by her father and brother because she refused an arranged marriage". After the refusal Ghulam Mustafa, along with brother to the murdered, Adnan Mustafa and uncle Mazhar Iqbal made plans to murder Sana. "On April 18, Sana Cheema was killed by her father and brother because they wanted to marry her off to his relative but the deceased wanted to marry of her own choice in Italy", police officials said.

According to family members, Cheema died in early April after succumbing to an unspecified illness.
