'Azadi' isn't possible, it won't happen: Army Chief to Kashmir youth
Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat has warned youngsters in Jammu and Kashmir against picking up arms or dreaming about "azaadi" (freedom). Rawat has also expressed concerns over Kashmiri youth choosing the path of militancy by picking up the gun. "We will always fight those who seek Azadi, those who want to secede (from the Indian Union) is not going to happen, never", he stated. "(Azadi) is not going to happen, never", Rawat said in an interview to the Indian Express.
He said from 1947 till date, Indian army and forces has killed hundreds of thousands in Kashmir. He stated that the terrorists can not achieve anything as ultimately, they can not fight the Indian Army. Kashmiris have to understand that the security forces haven't been so brutal - look at Syria and Pakistan. They use tanks and air power in similar situations.
The Army chief said the secession of Kashmir from India is not possible, adding that the disillusioned youth should exercise their democratic rights, rather than turning away from the mainstream.
Rawat wondered "who is inciting" the stone pelters and said, "I don't understand why people are coming out in huge numbers to disrupt our operations". "Individuals are affecting security powers by pelting stones at them to upset the activities... they are inducing security powers to end up more forceful", the Army boss said.
He also questioned protests by locals during any operation by forces against militants.
