At least 23 civilians, including some ten children, have been killed in suspected US-led airstrikes in the eastern Syrian province of Hasakah yesterday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were forced to pause their battle in the east after Turkey launched an assault in January against militia groups in the northern Afrin region, the Pentagon said this week.

USA support for Kurdish forces in Syria has infuriated Turkey, which sees the YPG militia - part of the SDF - as an extension of an outlawed Kurdish insurgency at home.

Rebels in the northern countryside of Homs and in the southern countryside of Hama have agreed to surrender their pocket in return for safe exit to opposition-held areas in Syria's north, CNN said, citing SANA.

The US-led coalition including French forces had increased their numbers and would support the SDF in "the final stage" of their operation, he said.
