First lady Melania Trump on Monday unveiled her new platform of initiatives to help kids, saying her "Be Best" campaign will focus on addressing the well-being of children, social media use and opioid abuse.
First Lady Melania Trump took a major step toward solidifying her legacy during the Trump Administration on Monday. Her focus on social media extends from her previous work during the 2016 campaign when she championed combatting cyber bullying as one of her first platforms as first lady.
Mrs. Trump's announcement also came as her husband remains under intense legal pressure from a special counsel's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and is facing questions over $130,000 in hush money paid by one of his attorneys to a porn actress who says she had sex with Trump in 2006.
Trump said the goal of her public awareness campaign is to encourage parents and all adults to impart on children to be kind, refrain from bullying on social media and elsewhere as well as stay away from drugs. She's focused on being a wife, and she's focused on her role as first lady.
"Too often it's used in negative ways", she said.
Since her husband's inauguration, Melania has had to endure reports that she never wanted to be first lady, as well as revelations about her husband's alleged affairs and payoffs to other women. She added, "I believe we should strive to provide kids with the tools they need to cultivate their social and emotional health".
