After the university announced Davenport's removal, dozens of students gathered on campus to show their support for her.
"We're hoping our support will make a difference. We have no stable system in place that our students can depend upon that we can contact and voice our concerns to", said student Brian McCaroll. Students say they are heartbroken over this news and that Davenport and students deserve better.
"I did not have the best relationship or respect towards Chancellor Davenport", said Parker. "I wanted her to give me my diploma".
"She stood up for us, you know, she's had our backs so there's no reason that we shouldn't have her back", said Student Body President Ovi Kabir.
"Some people are calling this a protest, but we want to stay away from that, we want to call this showing our sign of support for Chancellor Davenport because she means so much to us", said Turner Matthews, one of the students organizing the rally.

Davenport was only appointed to head the UT-Knoxville campus in 2017 but has come under fire from conservative state legislators who felt she didn't act forcefully enough in their view to address controversies such as Sex Week, an annual student-led program that seeks to educate students on safe sex practices. Until June 30, Davenport is on administrative leave with pay.
