The explosive first trailer for Spike Lee's adaptation of BlacKkKlansman has arrived, and it looks kind of insane, even though it's based on a true story.
"I thought about "Malcolm X", "Inside Man" [and] "25th Hour", and Spike just has an ability to do tension right, to do the moments of levity right, to deliver a social message and a punch", Peele told THR. I find Spike Lee to be extremely hit or miss as a filmmaker, so here's hoping his collaboration with Jordan Peele will result in one of the best movies of his long career.

In the film, Lee tackles the Ku Klux Klan, but he's doing so by telling a very unconventional true story, and one apparently aided by the kind of dark humor not often seen in such features. BlacKkKlansman is produced by the team behind the Academy-Award® winning Get Out. From the looks of this first trailer, Stallworth's story has been adapted into a buddy cop style comedy, with Washington and Driver as the two leads. He bravely sets out on a unsafe mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan. Determined to make a name for himself, Stallworth mounts a risky mission to infiltrate and take down the Ku Klux Klan, enlisting the help of an experienced colleague, Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver), to help him get inside the notorious hate group. Together, Stallworth and Zimmerman team up to take down the organization whose real aim is to sanitize its violent rhetoric to appeal to the mainstream.
