Equally spectacular is the supercar's base price of £1million ($1.36million at the current exchange rates), plus local taxes. Hidden behind the wheels are Brembo six-piston carbon ceramic brakes to ensure the BT62 can stop in a dime.

Going into the details of the Brabham BT62, the body is said to be built from lightweight carbon fiber in order to keep the weight down. The engine drives the rear wheels through a six-speed Hollinger sequential-shift racing transmission. The starting price for the BT62 is 1m GBP, and while lovely, we must quote co-founder Ron Tauranac, "You've built the auto of the future, now let's see how it handles".

The vehicle has carbon-fibre bodywork and is powered by a 5.4 litre V8 engine producing 522 kW.

The first Brabham BT62 cars will be delivered before the end of the year, and new owners will be treated to a proper driver development programme to make them as fit and able as possible to get the most from their cars.

News that a Brabham auto is returning to the track has been with us for a little while now. With a chassis setup personally developed by David Brabham, the BT62 has no driver aids other than traction control.

The brainchild of former grand prix driver and Le Mans victor David Brabham, the BT62 is the first project from the re-launched Brabham Automotive outfit.

Paul Birch, who headed development of the auto, said the BT62 was created from a blank sheet of paper over a two-year engineering and development programme. "Our first step to deliver on that strategy is the Brabham BT62, a vehicle truly worthy of carrying the iconic Brabham name". Sir Jack Brabham retired from F1 in 1970, and the Brabham team was acquired in 1971 by former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "I set out 12 years ago to re-establish the iconic Brabham name", David Brabham says, "determined to see it return to global competition".

In 2013, the Brabham family won a three-year court battle over the right to use their name. Brabham won't be coming back to Formula 1, however, as the costs are simply prohibitive.

The launch event at Australia House, the home of the Australian High Commission in London, featured a display of Brabham racing cars and memorabilia.
