"Kangaroos can occasionally be aggressive no matter what the circumstances are, but 90 percent of the time it's the people who are trying to feed them who are attacked", Shane Lewis, who operates a tourist shuttle service to the park, told media.
Each week thousands of people visit the grounds of a hospital in Morisset, New South Wales, to see the wild kangaroos.
"There have been a number of reported incidents in which kangaroos have attacked visitors, in one case causing a very deep gash to a man's stomach", independent member of parliament Greg Piper told the assembly on Tuesday night, Australia's SBS network reported.
But local authorities are warning about the dangers of getting too close after one person was left with 17 stitches in their face and another taken away by ambulance with severe cuts to their stomach. I don't want to see people stopped from visiting the kangaroos, but there clearly needs to be a co-ordinated response to protect the kangaroos as well as the people who visit them.
"In most cases they have been kicking out, clawing faces and grappling with people, causing lacerations or significant scratching".
"The fact is that the site is open to the public and it's so heavily advertised, it's well known, the genie is out of the bottle ... it's something we just have to manage".
"Despite a number of warning signs placed throughout the area, people still come in droves and they feed the kangaroos processed foods", he told Parliament.
But he called on the state's national parks department and health department, which owns the hospital site, to install appropriate signage in several languages to remind people that feeding the animals was illegal and unsafe.
Local MP Greg Piper says urgent action is needed to educate tourists.

Piper and Lewis said many tourists began the 4.5-kilometre journey between the station and the site without knowing the length of the walk, that there was no water or toilets or that it was a health facility.
Lewis would also like signs about penalties for feeding the animals and warnings to visitors to take their rubbish with them.
Michelle Shaw, the nutritionist at Sydney's Taronga zoo, said feeding the animals could be very harmful.
