Female body found in Red River

A female body was pulled from the Red River on Wednesday afternoon, Winnipeg police say.

"She was a young woman with a lot of hope, she had goals, she had visions, she had dreams".

Carolyn Carpenter said her daughter loved children and recently went back to school.

In 2014, Tina Fontaine's body was found in the Red River wrapped in a duvet cover weighed down with rocks.

"We encourage anyone with any information to come forward so we can find justice for April", she posted Thursday on Facebook.

"Somebody knows something", Dubery said.

"It was very unlike her to be gone", he said.

The body was removed by members of the Winnipeg police underwater search and recovery unit.

They recovered a woman's body from the river, but have yet to determine a cause of death.

Police are continuing to investigate.

"Police describe Carpenter as Indigenous, 5'7" tall, 130 pounds, with light brown, shoulder-length hair and noticeable dimples.

The news release said that no further information is available at this time.
